Beat the Clock Change: How to Reset Your Sleep Routine

Beat the Clock Change: How to Reset Your Sleep Routine

When the clocks go back, that extra hour in bed feels like a gift - until your body clock decides otherwise. The darker evenings and lighter mornings can throw your sleep routine off balance, leaving you feeling groggy or restless.

Here are our favourite ways to get your sleep back on track:

    1. Ease into it

In the days leading up to the change, try heading to bed 10–15 minutes earlier each night. It’s a gentle way to help your body adjust without the shock of a full hour’s shift.

To make this transition smoother, focus on consistency. Keep your wake-up and bedtime the same, even on weekends, to help stabilise your internal rhythm. Pair your evening routine with something comforting – like slipping into soft, breathable pyjamas or a luxuriously cosy duvet  to signal to your body that it’s time to unwind.

    2. Create a calm sleep space

Your bedroom should signal relaxation. Fresh, breathable bedding from Soak & Sleep and a calming scent - like lavender or chamomile from Aery Living - can help cue your mind that it’s time to wind down.

Take your sleep sanctuary up a notch by layering textures and tones that feel serene. A soft cotton bed linen set or a temperature-regulating mattress topper can make a noticeable difference in comfort. Keep lighting dim and warm in the evening to help you wind down gently and drift off naturally.

    3. Embrace natural light

Morning light helps reset your circadian rhythm. Open your curtains as soon as you wake up or step outside for a few minutes to soak up the daylight.

If your mornings are dark, consider a Lumie wake-up light to simulate sunrise and gently wake you without the shock of an alarm. Exposure to natural or simulated daylight helps your brain produce serotonin, boosting your energy and mood – especially during long winter days. After you wake, make your bed with fresh Soak & Sleep sheets to create a sense of calm order that carries through your morning.

    4. Wind down with intention

Put away screens at least half an hour before bed and swap doomscrolling for something soothing - maybe journalling, gentle stretches, or lighting an aromatherapy candle.

Try adding a mini ritual to mark the end of your day – reading under a soft, supportive pillow, sipping herbal tea, or turning on a candle with a gentle sunset setting to ease you into rest.

    5. Be kind to yourself

It can take a week or so to fully adjust. Stick to your routine, prioritise rest, and let your body find its rhythm again. Small changes can make a big difference, and soon you’ll be sleeping soundly, clock change or not.

Make the change even better, and check out the Soak & Sleep & Aery Living collaboration to win a beautiful wind-down kit.
